Not a Lasik Candidate? You can still get freedom from glasses through these options!
We understand every patient has anticipation to get rid of glasses with LASIK but unfortunately in Pakistan
approximately 30% of all potential patients are not suitable candidates for LASIK. At Hashmanis, we follow
strict international eye health parameters to deliver quality results. We are the only hospital in Pakistan to
offer Total Refractive Solutions – this means that if you are not a candidate for Lasik you can still get rid of
your glasses!
Common reasons for which you are not a Lasik candidate:
- Thin or irregular corneas
- Large pupils
- Unstable vision
- Dry eyes
- Pregnancy
- Degenerative or active autoimmune disorders
- Glaucoma
- Uncontrollable diabetes
Here are the options available for you:
Phakic IOLs (Implantable Lenses)
Phakic IOLs are clear implantable lenses that are surgically placed either between the cornea and the iris
(the colored portion of your eye) or just behind the iris, without removing your natural lens. Phakic IOLs
offer a permanent correction of myopia.
Hashmanis hospital has implanted the highest number of Phakic IOLs in Pakistan. This extensive
experience has allowed us to produce excellent outcomes.
PRK Laser
In PRK, the thin outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is removed and discarded prior to reshaping the
underlying corneal stroma with laser. The epithelium repairs itself and grows back over the corneal
surface within a few days after surgery.
LASIK Plus
LASIK Plus is a simple treatment performed in conjunction with CXL that adds just a few extra minutes to the
Lasik treatment. Lasik Plus adds new biomechanical strength to the cornea. All patients can benefit and it
particularly helps high myopic correction or hyperopic correction with borderline corneal thickness.
Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
Refractive lens exchange typically is for people with presbyopia or extreme farsightedness, for whom
LASIK, PRK or Phakic IOL surgery generally is not suitable. Lens replacement surgery usually takes about
15 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis. Each eye is done separately, usually about a week
apart.
RLE surgery is essentially the same as cataract surgery; however, in RLE, the procedure is performed
primarily to change the refractive properties of the eye rather than to remove a cataract that has developed
in the lens of the eye.
FEMTO RLE (refractive lens exchange)
RLE, as described above, is performed without the use of any blades. Instead a femtosecond laser is used to
make precise cuts. The femtosecond laser is an infrared laser with a spot diameter of a hundredth of a
millimeter; it can make more precise cuts than any microsurgery blade or scalpel. The laser assisted RLE
surgery is performed without use of any sharp instruments, controlled by most modern systems resulting in
higher accuracy, quicker recovery and more comfort.
Hashmanis Hospital is the pioneer in introducing this technology to Pakistan and has performed the
highest number of FEMTO RLE and FEMTO Cataract procedures in Pakistan.
And there you have it - with the advanced refractive solutions that Hashmanis Hospital offers now mostly
everybody can get freedom from glasses and contact lenses!
